Yet another PS5 firmware update has been pushed live by Sony, making the current firmware version 26.01-12.70.00. If you're looking for any substantial feature additions or tweaks, though, this isn't the update for you.
The PS5 firmware update will be distributed to consoles worldwide in stages, and here's the single patch note attached to it:
- We've improved system software performance and stability.
As the update is being rolled out gradually, there's a chance you won't pull the PS5 firmware patch. You should still receive it in the coming days, though.
Compared to the previous PS5 firmware update that arrived late last month, this is a minor one. Stability updates have become something of a meme on PS5, and Sony has hit us with another one. At least your system should run better having downloaded it!
What do you think? Celebrate more PS5 stability in the comments below.

Now nothing can topple over my system. Thanks Sony.
When my console shut off twice unexpectedly on launch day I was jonesing for some stability updates
@Gaia093 all these updates have set it in concrete at this point 👍🏻
Without reading the articel... stability?
I've had a PS5 since launch day, and a Pro since launch day.
In that time, the console itself has never crashed.
To the best of my knowledge, I’ve only ever had one single game crash, and that was Silent Hill 2 when I was nearing completion in the final hotel section a couple of days ago.
Pretty solid, so I have no idea what stability issues they are constantly tweaking!
Stops all the Jailbreaking lol
Weirdly the one thing that did seem to create a recurrent system software errors for me was plugging in my external hard drive with all my PS4 games on it. Since I stopped using it, its fine. Perhaps my hard drive, but works no problem in my PS4.
I'm stable again - well at least Sony says I am.
Whose idea was it to remove the explanation as to what the update does from the actual update screen on PlayStation and replace it with a QR code? That is the stupidest possible decision they could have made regarding this. Yeah, create an extra, completely unnecessary step when it was perfectly fine before. Probably the same person that removed the ability to sort our trophy lists alphabetically like how it was on PS3, replaced with the awful ‘last game you unlock a trophy in gets forced to the top of the list’ method.

@Dogbreath I'm pretty sure "system stability" is just their way of referring to blocking exploits that can lead to hacking the system and getting it to run pirated games and homebrew. It's not actually beneficial to us.
“What good is fast performance, a flashy stability, and a gold-plated UI? Absolutely no good at all. I've been put on this planet to demand nude mods and VR contwnt, which in essence is gonna help humanity. I wanna have the purest nude mods. I wanna be able to see straight into that creek. I wanna stop the lack of mods. I wanna save the world. And you know money? Money is great. I can't get enough money. And you know what I'm gonna do with it? I'm gonna buy nude mods with it. Every single cent I get goes straight into nude mods. And guess what Pushsquare, I don't give a rip whose money it is mate. I'll use it, and I'll spend it on buying nude mods.” —Stephen Robert Irwin, 1962 – 2006 and Efyi 1987 - 20??
Secret update that includes the PSSR 2 stuff because we will get patches for the first games really shortly after the announcement during the state of play.
A man can dream
Whew. I was getting worried about that performance and stability
I just want that FSR4 PS5 Pro update. Where is it? I hope it's announced at today's State of Play.
Booooo! I thought they were getting the Console ready for when they shadow drop Intergalactic later after the State of Play
"We hope you like stability"
Hey! Who let Nintendo life write the tagline?
@Dogbreath TBF, stability isn't necessarily just for hard game crashes. Other things like wireless connections, network, UX, device and storage management, et cetera can have performance issues or glitches. Most of them probably go unnoticed by most people. Of course, it doesn't help that Sony is so vague about what exactly they change.
@GoodGame pretty much what this always means!
I always remember the PS4 updates all they had was updated for messaging and chat that's all I would see and then stability updates more like security key encryption updates
